During the Tang dynasty, celadon of the finest quality called mise or “secret-color” ware was made at the Yue kilns as gifts for the court. In the Song dynasty, imperial celadon known as Ru ware and Guan (official) ware were produced. Chinese celadon and its production technique provided significant influence on Goryeo celadon, while in Japan a great number of Chinese celadon such as Longquan ware was imported. The Japanese people treasured the celadon, calling them karamono, literary meaning “Chinese objects”. This exhibition introduces the world of Chinese celadon and its beauty through approximately twenty pieces from the museum collection.
