Special Exhibition: Lucie Rie
Lucie Rie (1902-1995), born in Vienna and worked in London, is one of the leading artist potters of the 20th century. Among the early studio potters in the UK, she established her unique style, which was resonant with the thoughts and trends of the contemporary architecture and design. This exhibition, the first full-scale retrospective exhibition after the artist’s death, traces back her creative activity by showing approximately 200 works gathered from around the world. It is based on the rich reference materials recently donated to a research institute in the UK.
Featured Exhibition: Works by KAWASAKI Tsuyoshi from the FUKUSHIMA Satoko Collection
Kawasaki Tsuyoshi (1942- ) is an artist potter living in Tama City, Tokyo. The theme he has been working on since the 1980s until today, the “machi (town)”series, was inspired by the idea of cutting out a solid piece of townscape, which maintains a strong, solid presence while certain variations have been added in his later works. This exhibition shows the artist’s works associated with the theme“machi”made until recent years, most of which are from the donated collection by Ms. Fukushima Satoko.
