Temporary Exhibition: Ewers of the Goryeo Dynasty
Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) was a period in which a large number of ceramic ewers were produced, celadon ewers being the core of production. Ewers were introduced to the Korean Peninsula from China, changing and adjusting their forms as the culture to which they belonged had made changes, such as the growing prosperity of Buddhism in Goryeo and the transition of lifestyles of the Goryeo people, eventually developing variegated styles especially during the 12th century. Goryeo ewers were adorned by connoisseurs of China and Japan for their elegant forms and motifs that were nurtured within the aristocratic culture and were regarded as quality wares. This exhibition introduces approximately 30 pieces of such Goryeo ewers principally from the museum collection.
